OMSK State Medical University
A Historic Foundation Omsk State Medical University (OMSK STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY) stands as one of the oldest and most prestigious medical institutions in Siberia. Established in 1920 as the Medical Faculty of the Siberian Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Zoology, the university initially enrolled 186 students. The rapid development of medical education in the region led to the establishment of the West Siberian State Medical Institute in 1921, with Prof. N.K. Ivanov-Emin serving as its first rector. By 1924, the institute was officially renamed Omsk State Medical Institute, marking the beginning of a new era in medical education.
Expansion of OMSK University
Expansion and Growth Over the decades, OMSK STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY expanded its academic offerings to meet the growing demand for specialized medical training:
- 1931: The Maternity and Child Protection Faculty was founded, later evolving into the Pediatric Faculty.
- 1938: The Sanitary and Hygienic Faculty was established, now known as the Preventive Medicine Faculty.
- 1957: The Dentistry Faculty opened its doors to students.
- 2002: The Faculty of Pharmacy was introduced, further broadening the academic scope.
In recognition of its contributions to medical education, the institution was granted the status of a State Medical Academy in 1994. The academy’s continued advancements led to its elevation as a university in 2015.
OMSK University Today Today, OMSK STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY is among the largest medical universities in Siberia, consistently ranked among the top 100 universities in Russia. The university has trained over 35,000 medical professionals who now serve in various regions across Russia and beyond, including CIS and non-CIS countries.
